Top Angle or Compression Ring

Top Angle or Compression Ring

hi guys

i'm confuse between top angle and compression ring.

Can you tell me guys what is the difference between them

and what is the criteria of choosing between them?

Thanks in Advance

RE: Top Angle or Compression Ring

A top angle is a rolled angle at the top of the shell. API-650 specifies minimum top angle sizes based on the tank diameter. It is mainly used to help maintain roundness at the top of the tank. For self-supporting cone and umbrella tanks, separate criteria are given for top angle size. In those cases, the top angle is actually acting as a tension ring.

A compression ring is used on a tank with internal pressure to resist the inward tensile forces developed in the roof. A compression ring may be a rolled angle, identical to the top angle above, or may be of various other configurations. See Appendix F in API-650.
