Welder Performance Qualification

Welder Performance Qualification

Welder Performance Qualification

(OP)
Conducting a review of Contractor's Welding Procedures, I find where welder qualifications are conducted by and outside testing lab. I note there is no reference to the actual PQR's used to qualify the original WPS listed on the test. Is this acceptable ? Can you direct me to any statements regarding this in Section lX. Thank you in advance for assistance.

RE: Welder Performance Qualification

For welder performance qualification, Section IX recommends only the WPS is identified for the welder performance and not the associated PQR on Form QW-484A. See suggested format of Forms in Section IX, Non mandatory Appendix B.

metengr,

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. wjs

RE: Welder Performance Qualification

See paragraph 301.2 of ASME Section IX which there is a statement as the following :
The welder or welding operator who prepares the WPS
qualification test coupons meeting the requirements of
QW-200 is also qualified within the limits of the performance
qualifications, listed in QW-304 for welders and in
QW-305 for welding operators. He is qualified only within
the limits for positions specified in QW-303.
