RE: Crack Observed during final assembly of socket

The cracked socket fitting should be examined by a competent metallurgist/materials engineer to determine the nature/cause of the crack.

RE: Crack Observed during final assembly of socket

If your material supplier provided certs showing the stock was 100% ultrasonic inspected, then you can assume the crack was produced during forging, machining or subsequent heat treatment. You should not have delivered a product to a customer that had a defect, especially if there was a documented history of similar problems with this product. If you need to write a corrective action for addressing the NCR of these parts, it should include all the changes to your production process required to ensure the problem will not re-occur. This would include additional in-process inspections to ensure there are no flaws in the part after forging and after HT.
