Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

(OP)
Does anyone have experience with concrete slabs that have the fiber mesh fibers sticking through the top of the slab, and how to remove them?

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

When Fibers became common, quite a few years ago, a building inspector (with a sly look) suggested an oversized safety razor.

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

I have not seen it done, but I hear people burn the exposed fibers with a torch

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

I have heard about the torch method as well…

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

If they are plastic fibre, torch. If they are steel fibre, top coat/leveling mix.

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

Turn'n Burn. Agree with CE here. The steel fibers will rust and stain the slab if not protected. Cleaning agents feed on steel.

Burn. Works fine.

Also...use a hand-held roofing torch for modified bitumen membrane application. Can do a whole slab in a few minutes.

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

I hate fuzzy slabs.

RE: Concrete Slab with Fiber Mesh sticking through top of slab

Fuzzy thinking leads to the use of plastic fibres in concrete, so fuzz in the finish is to be expected.
