Maximum size of nozzle on Run pipe as per B31.1 - reg.,

Hi All,

I need to know that the maximum size of branch nozzle that can be drilled on a run pipe as per ASME B31.1.

I found that the maximum size of hole on vessel as per ASME Sec 1 (PG-32.1.2) & ASME Sec VIII Div 1 (UG-36 & Mandatory App 1.7, 1.9 & 1.10).

I am new to B31.1. Even I found for maximum size of branch for socket & threaded nozzle connections as per 104.3.1 in ASME B31.1. But I Can't able to find any provision for maximum size of opening for full penetration butt welded nozzle.

Can anyone share me the exact chapter which gives the provision for maximum size of opening for welded nozzle connection?

Thanks,

Vijayan

Technically it can be size to size (using a full size-to-size TEE) or run size to something smaller if using a Reducing TEE.
What specific run size and branch size are you concerned with?

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

Dear Pennpiper,

Run size is 32 inch and Branch is 28 inch. Design pressure 8.1kg/cm2. Actually this arrangement is mainly used to accommodate the desuperheating nozzle inside the run pipe. That's why we need this size even though at low pressure. Though I have already suggested to use the forged unequal tee for this arrangement, I need to know the maximum size of branch that can be welded on run as per B31.1?

Thanks,

Vijayan

2nd question: Do you have a copy (or access to a copy) of ASME B31.1?
