NX 8.5 Reattaching a sketch will move that on work layer

NX 8.5 Reattaching a sketch will move that on work layer

NX 8.5 Reattaching a sketch will move that on work layer

(OP)
Hello Community,

we recently changed from NX 6 to NX 8.5 in our office. We detected a unusual behavior in the new Version after reattaching a sketch.

In NX6 you could have a sketch on a specific layer (e.g. Layer 20) while the work layer was Layer 1. If you reattached the sketch, the layer of the sketch was still the same (Layer 20), the work layer remained as layer 1.

In NX8.5 the layer from the sketch (20) will be set to the work layer (1). You have to move the sketch to its original layer manually again.

Is it possible to change a setting, so the behavior in NX8.5 is the same as in NX6? I didn't find a setting for that.

Thank you for helping,

Sandcor

RE: NX 8.5 Reattaching a sketch will move that on work layer

I wonder if this isn't the customer default setting : Gateway- Part navigator - Objects / parents on invisible layer - Action on Show : Move to work layer.
/ Change layer to be selectable.

In my session, the sketch does NOT move, it stays on layer 20.

Regards,
Tomas

Hello Tomas,

thanks for your answer.

In our settings the default value of the mentioned setting is "Change Layer to be Selectabel". But this does not influence the behaviour

What I found out, now: It has something to do with the "Direct Sketch" and the "Sketch in Task Environment". If I change the value under:
Modeling > General > Miscellaneous > Edit Sketch Action from "Task Environment" to "Direct Edit" the problem with reattaching of sketches doesn't appear.

But honestly: I would prefer, to control this layer option no matter which sketch function i use. So if there is somebody who can tell me the settings for this, it would be great pleasure.

Hello jerry1423,

sorry. Yes, of course my settings were also changed in the customer default. I didn't mention that. I tested to change the marked option vbut unfortunately it didn't helped.

But I tested some more things. What I did:
  • Create Datum CSYS
  • Create a Sketch on one Datum Plane via Direct Sketch
  • Move Sketch to layer 20
  • Make Layer 20 visible
  • If I choose Edit for the sketch in the Part Navigator, the Direct Sketch Menu pops up (1), if I choose Edit with Rollback, the Sketch Task Environment pops up (2)
  • Reattach the Sketch
  • If (1): the sketch will be moved to Work Layer, if (2): the sketch remains on its layer
If there are further hints and comments, I am thankful to read them,

Sandcor

RE: NX 8.5 Reattaching a sketch will move that on work layer

When you move the sketch to layer 20 make sure that your selection filter is set to Sketch (only), and then select you sketch from the model tree. That way no only will your physical sketch curves get moved to the new layer but the "virtual" things will get moved too.
You may need to make your sketch external to its parent feature to do this.

Hello jerry1423,

well, what you described works. But only if i reattach the sketch once. If I want to reattach it to another CSYS and then back again the layer structure gets crazy.
I reattached the sketch to some other datum planes/CSYS. What I get as a result was that after all my sketch was on layer 1 and the CSYSs were on Layer 20!? That is not the way i would expect NX to behave.

So I think you have to know, how NX reacts here. Probably you can not change the behavior in this point. Well, i can live with that - my collegue has to...

Thank you all,

Sandcor
