NX9.0 split body problem

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

How are you creating the 'cutting' objects? Are they simple (planar) sheet bodies?

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

The issue is that despite the fact that you're selecting TWO 'cutting' objects, internally the system is performing two separate operations in sequence, and so when the first one is attempted, the result is considered invalid since the software was expecting that there would be TWO bodies (the name of the function IS 'Split Body'), but there is still only ONE, and so it never gets to the second cutting operation.

So if this is what you're really looking for, you're either going to need to approach this problem from another direction or else, for a more general solution, first 'Split' the original body into two bodies, perform the individual 'Split Body' operations and then 'Unite' the original model back together again, as I've done in the example attached below.

Or, create the split body feature with a single U shaped trim sheet.

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

I recently had the same problem, but when I got back on the next day it worked.

Thanks guys.
John's explanation about how it works internally makes sense.
I understand using one sheet body to split the body will result in non-manifold model which is not supported in NX CAD.
However, I still think it should be possible to work in the model i offered using the two sheet bodies.
Hope this can be improved in future version.

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

I approach these situations like Cowski illustrated.

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

It's not really a non-manifold issue as much as it is that using the 'Split Body' function, you have to actually have a result where there are TWO bodies. Perhaps we should only allow the selection of a single 'cutting' object so as not to mislead people into thinking that something is happening which it is not. Internally, the system can only perform ONE 'Split Body' operation at a time, therefore each 'cutting' object selected MUST 'split' the model. If it dies not, it's an invalid operation.

John, I test it in Solidworks and it works.
I think it should be able to be that smart.

RE: NX9.0 split body problem

Fine; call GTAC and have them open an ER to that effect and we'll give it consideration.
