Insert Plate for API 650 Tank

Insert Plate for API 650 Tank

Insert Plate for API 650 Tank

(OP)
Dear All,

In API 650 the term "Insert Plate" is used in many places, So can anyone tell me what is this "Insert plate" means?

Thanks in advance smile

RE: Insert Plate for API 650 Tank

It is a plate that is of equal thickness as the shell plate but it is not necessarily either as wide nor as tall as the shell plate. A window is cut into the shell plate for some reason and the replacement plate is inserted into the hole and butt welded in place. This replacement plate is an insert plate.

RE: Insert Plate for API 650 Tank

Also refers to a thickened reinforcing plate that is inserted into a hole in the shell instead of being lapped on the outside of the shell- see Figure 5.7b, bottom left figure. Where maximum thickness is increased for insert plates, this is the geometry anticipated.
