NX9 thicken feature
NX9 thicken feature
(OP)
Hey everyone,
I havent asked anything in a while so here goes.
I have a sheet body generated from multiple "through curve mesh" features in a way that the sheets are not continuous to one another and in some areas may have a very short radius of curvature.
Basically what I need is to make my sheets into solid walls in outward direction. The thicken feature doesnt want to work with offset which exceeds 0.001 mm. It says that the offset radius might intersect itself.
I was wondering isnt there a way around this problem? I need to turn the sheets into solid walls because otherwise I can not perform flow analysis on this model when exported to solidworks.
Thanks to anyone who can make a suggestion.

RE: NX9 thicken feature
If that is the case then don't sew them together and thicken each one individually and unite them together. You will probably have some small faces that you will need to delete after the unite, but it should work.

From your description, it sounds as if one of the surfaces has a radius value to it that is smaller than your offset value and will equate to a sharp corner, meaning the "blend" surface will disappear completely after the thicken is applied. If you wish to do this as surfaces then Sew and end with Thicken, you should be able to sew the trouble surface with the adjacent boundary surfaces and try an Offset Surface to see if the one giving you grief will Thicken at all (as a test).
