Combining Electrical and Gas meters

Combining Electrical and Gas meters

Combining Electrical and Gas meters

(OP)
I am working on a project in Dallas, Texas. The owner wants to combine two existing suites in a shopping plaza and make them one large suite. I need to know what approach to take to combine the electric and gas meters.

RE: Combining Electrical and Gas meters

Would you be putting separate meters for each unit in one enclosure , or one meter for the whole shopping center ?
B.E.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.

RE: Combining Electrical and Gas meters

See whether one meter (gas or electric) is rated for the duty of both units. Check incoming supply to see if it is capable of supporting both units. check to see piping run to your joint single meter doesn't add more than say 50% to the total length of gas piping.

Or call the utility company and ask them??

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

RE: Combining Electrical and Gas meters

I agree with LittleInch

Combine the piping downstream of the two gas meters, put a cap where the removed meter was located. You may have to upsize the new meter, but maybe not. That way, when the new owner in 5 years decides there is more money in splitting the suites again, the cost to go back will be minimal.

RE: Combining Electrical and Gas meters

The owner wants to do this, or the tenant wants to?

Owner = shopping mall

Tenant = store

It is likely that the owner has gone through this before. If not at this particular mall, at another mall that they one.

They will have a way that they want it done.

RE: Combining Electrical and Gas meters

You should talk too the utility.... they own the meters. Combining pipes downstream of the gas meter sounds illegal,
