fire stop and floor system rating

fire stop and floor system rating

fire stop and floor system rating

(OP)
hi everyone,
There's this mezzanine inside a warehouse where they missed to rate the floor system (of the mezz) and as a result of this the CBO instructed the contractor to rate all the exterior walls with 2hr rating; one of this walls is a partition that runs all the way to the ceiling of the wharehouse roof. (From the top side of mezz).
I am required to design the fire stop at the connection partition-ceiling which has to have the required tolerance for the roof deflection.
My question is: shouldn't they rate the floor anyways? Because if there's a fire, what we need is the floor system to stand so people can evacuate, no? Also, what would have been the rationale behind for the CBO to order to rate the exterior walls to try to "cover up" the floor system lack of?

Thank you

M.

RE: fire stop and floor system rating

I would guess that the Architect asked the CBO whether than was another way that would be acceptable rather than the remedial work associated with rating the mezzanine. Obviously, it was determined to rate the walls. Most likely, it reduced the building area down to a size where the mezzanine did not need to be rated.
