Foundation settlement (consolidation)
Foundation settlement (consolidation)
(OP)
Afternoon,
By browsing this site, I found a useful formulae for Fadum charts which is as follows:
It is an old thread so I decided to repost.
billsumner (Petroleum) (OP)26 Jun 06 06:09 Thanks for your help BigH. Page 54 of Poulos gives the formulae as you say:
Iσz = 1/(2π)*[arctan(m*n/sqrt(m²+n²+1)) + {m*n/sqrt(m²+n²+1)}*{1/(1+m²) + 1/(1+n²)}]
where Iσz = influence coefficient
m = B/z
n = L/z
B = half breadth of foundation
L = half length of foundation
z = depth
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=158107
My question is, how do we use the resulting "Iσz" value from the above to calculate settlement?
As I try, my answers seem to get more incorrect with each attempt!
Thank you,
Lombz

This will be shown that the increased load in the over consolidated or normal consolidated state and this will be decided in using the compression index Cr or Cc.
