Inconel 718 finishing for low contact angle

Inconel 718 finishing for low contact angle

(OP)
We have developed a thermal molecular adhesion turbine working with saturated steam. We have used SS303 for our discs and would like to know if there is any online charts for common metals and alloys relating to hydrophilic properties, wetting, or contact angle charts.

We believe our SS contact angle is around 72 and that Inconel 718 is around 40 (room temp not elevated).

Does anyone know where to find this information without doing specific Sessile test?

Sincerely,

Michael

RE: Inconel 718 finishing for low contact angle

Do a search for surface energy, that is the actual material property of interest. Contact angle is proportional to surface energy.

RE: Inconel 718 finishing for low contact angle

Did you say 303, as in the free machining grade?
I hope that these are not stressed parts since this allow has almost no usable fatigue resistance.

Surface condition will matter.
You are going to need to do testing on your specific pars to be sure.
