Modo to SolidWorks

Modo to SolidWorks

Modo to SolidWorks

(OP)
Anyone here have any experience working with Modo geometry in SolidWorks? We have a graphic designer type with Modo. He has the Modo plugin which allows him to import SW files, allowing him to do renderings. We are considering getting the Modo plugins which would allow him to make aesthetic modifications to the geometry and export them for use in SolidWorks.

I am looking for insight about the practicality of this workflow. How likely are we to end up with geometry that would be usable in SolidWorks? My gut instinct is that once we start trying to add bosses, gusseting and drafts, we will end up wishing that we had reproduced the geometry directly in SolidWorks.

Opinions…

RE: Modo to SolidWorks

Its just dumb geometry when you bring it back into SW. Your SW file goes into Modo and is changed over to Polygons and when you get it back there is no history in the file anymore. Modo is great if that is the only tool you have or you use it for renderings only. I do not see a reason to use both. I tried this for 4 years with a company I worked previously and it was only good for renders IMO. However Photoview 360 has come a long way with the Modo engine and I don't see a reason to use both applications.
