NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

(OP)
Not sure if I should have put this in the spreadsheet section.

I was just updated to excel 2013. I have been running into two problems since.

1) When I click on "edit spreadsheet" in the Family Parts dialogue box, if I have another instance of Excel open, it will error and not open the Family Part spreadsheet until I close out the other excel. I never had a problem with having an excel file open in 2010. The problem is we have excel files that have a lot of info we use while creating family parts. But the only way we can see those right now is if we close them out, wait til the Family Part spreadsheet opens, then open the other files again. Is there a fix for this?

2) Sometimes, when I try to "update parts" in a family part sreadsheet, it will kick me out of NX9 completely. I found that if I move the spreadsheet some and make sure all edges are within the view of the display of the monitor, it usually doesnt have this problem. Only once has it still kicked me out.

Does anyone else have these problems?

RE: NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

Officially NX 9.0 does not support MS Excel 2013. While it might work, it was never certified. Only MS Excel 2010 is listed as having been certified in the 'NX 9.0 Release Notes'.

That being said, MS Excel 2013 HAS been certified as being compatible with NX 10.0.

In this case, I want to re-emphasize for others who do have this same problem, that once the NX9 Part Family opens its spreadsheet, you then can open another excel file. You just cant open the spreadsheet while another excel is already open.

Thanks for the info John

RE: NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

I can't comment on 2, but I know I read somewhere that 1 is a consequence of how Excel 2013 opens files. I think it was in UGanswer but I'm not sure. I think Excel 2010 and previous opens all the workbooks in the same session, 2013 will start a new session for each workbook. The advise as I remember it is to not have Excel 2013 open when using with NX, and once NX has opened it you can then open other workbooks.

RE: NX9 Family Part - 2013 Excel problem

Somewhere in time i wrote an IR on this and the response i got from Siemens was that the architecture behind Excel 2010 and 2013 is quite different, it is not a simple thing for Siemens to "fix the 2013 integration for NX9".
I found that Excel 2013 Part families does work with some carefulness but trying to edit a Drafting table does not.
