Split system

(OP)
I am working on a project to install a split system air conditioning and the condensate unit will be installed 20' above the air handler unit. Usually condensate units are installed on ground. Would it be any problem if the condensate unit is elevated above the air handler unit?
Thanks

RE: Split system

Condenser Unit not condensate, which is something else you need to worry about.

Typically no. Read the manufacturer's recommendation. When sizing the lines, you may need a double suction risers to help the oil get back.

knowledge is power

RE: Split system

you have to consult manufacturer's literature, there are differing concepts of compressor oil return, so only manufacturer can guarantee proper operation in such conditions.

RE: Split system

Hire an Engineer who does this.

RE: Split system

Condensing units are frequently located on a flat roof when there is little to no room on ground. Main issue with locating the condenser unit is how far it is from the evaporator. If your refrigerant line is 150 feet or longer, larger tubing will likely be needed. Some manufacturers/unit sizes may need larger refrigerant lines at 100 feet. Consult with your manufacturer's rep for run limitations.
