Using OpenOffice with NX?

Using OpenOffice with NX?

Using OpenOffice with NX?

(OP)
Can Open Office be used with NX 9?

The answer back in 2008 was no.

Has that changed?

The reason I ask is our IT department loaded a new work station with Open Office instead of Excel. I just wanted confirmation before more time is wasted trying to find a work around.

Thank you
Ken.

RE: Using OpenOffice with NX?

I believe it has to do with the interface mechanism that is employed to open Excel from NX that requires Excel be loaded locally to your machine.

Yes, but can that interface be altered to use the Open Office equivalent of Excel?

I'm am guessing not, due to the lack of instructions on the matter within the UG Docs.

I don't want to approach our IT guy and say this must be loaded with Excel, without knowing for sure.

Thank you for the replies.

RE: Using OpenOffice with NX?

I am not sure about Open Office interfacing with UG, I have never tried. But, why not use XESS? XESS is a freeware you can download from here:

http://www.gmfile.net/soft/windows/business/office...

or, http://freecode.com/projects/xess. I would scan and check the file before installing from this site.

If you look at the Spreadsheet Preferences, there is an option of either XESS or Excel. I have never used XESS, but if you call GTAC, I am sure they will assist you in configuring your UG to XESS.
