Thicken
Thicken
(OP)
I am have problems adding thicken to a sheet body I am try to add a thickness of 5mm but it will not let me do this and in my alerts boxes it says
1. An edge that might be affected by the change can not be found.
2. Thicken operation failed.
3. Can not apply thicken.
Does anyone have any tips how to get round this or what I am doing wrong?
Thank you.
Regards Daniel Lamb.

Without seeing the part file, it would be next to impossible to give you any truly useful advice. Without seeing the part, the only thing I might suggest is to try changing the value of the 'Tolerance' in the 'Settings' section of the dialog. Try going first in one direction and then the other, changing the value by at least an order of magnitude to start with. But again, if you can post the part, that would really help. If not the part, than at least a picture of what the surface looks like.

That being said, there are tools to do what you want, it just takes a bit longer as they do not involve simple one-step functions. Look at the attached part file as I've used those tools (if you playback the model you'll see what I did) to get what I suspect was the model that you're looking for.

So, if you want to thicken outward, it might be possible by removing all the blends, thicken your 5 mm, and then, try adding back the blends. You will find out that certain areas will not be needed to blend.
I have attached the model by thickening inward.
RE: Thicken
I never even gave it a try as it just looked more complicated than anything I had ever seen done before. You learn something every day.
