Friction Grip Bolts in Composite Steel-Concrete Construction

Friction Grip Bolts in Composite Steel-Concrete Construction

(OP)
Dear All,

I am trying to reproduce results in the document I attached here and I attached my CAE file.

I seem to struggle defining interaction and the model does not converge. I currently modeled the concrete as smeared crack concrete but I would like to use plasticity damaged model instead but I am not sure where to get the date from. I would like to test different concrete grades ie C25, C30, C40, C50 and C70.

Once I remove the plasticity from concrete then the model runs but the stress in concrete is around 1000MPa so I need to relax it with plastic analysis just not sure where I am going wrong.

My model seem to have quite a few issues like The plasticity/creep/connector friction algorithm did not converge at 1 points

my questions are:

1. Is the preload applied correctly ie I would like to apply 145kN. I have 20mm bolt. My units are N and mm so I use 145 000N/314mm^2= 461. I have applied 350 to test it but I am not sure that is how the preload is applied in ABAQUS
2. Can someone please help me with the interaction and convergence. I go round circles and can;t figure out what to do.

Help is much appreciated. Thanks guys.
