Brick Masonry in SAP 2000

Brick Masonry in SAP 2000

Can anyone please tell me how to model a masonry structure in SAP 2000? It would be very helpful. I need to perform static non-linear pushover analysis of a school building and retrofit it.

RE: Brick Masonry in SAP 2000

I assume by your question that the masonry wall is part of the lateral resisting system since you are asking about pushover analysis from lateral loads and you specifically mention the masonry wall. You could model the wall using rectangular frame elements with section dimensions and material properties equivalent to the masonry walls. If you use frame elements modeled centerline, you will likely need to assign joint body constraints in order to connect and properly account for the width of the wall. See CSI website for examples of assigning hinges for pushover analysis.

Alternatively you could model the masonry wall using the nonlinear layered shell element

Actually I have to model a school building on SAP 2000 and perform pushover analysis to check the buildings resistance to Earthquake. My adviser was saying something about shell element something. I have this final year project and have no clue about it and i'm running out of time

RE: Brick Masonry in SAP 2000

@hassanalvi. Sir if you have succeeded in modelling of brick masonry structure in SAP 2000 then please send tutorial or anything related to that because Iam also trying to model the same. Your help will be highly appreciated.

@adeela01 yes I modeled the Brick Masonry structure in SAP2000 recently. I was able to model it by consulting my project supervisor. Anyways please tell me what you want to do or what you are planning to do as it will help me to understand your problem.

RE: Brick Masonry in SAP 2000

@hassanalvi, Sir actually i want to model reinforced brick masonry one storey building by using SAP 2000 but i dont understand clearly how to model it. And further i have to do non linear pushover analysis of the structure (seems to be similar as yours). I need some sort of synopsis or any tutorial that may provide me clear understanding. Thanks for the reply.

@Hasaan Alvi

Sir, if you have some tutorial or steps for modelling of reinforced masonry structures then please upload a file. I would be very kind of you.

Thank You

@ adeela01
May be it can done with layered element , please refer shell element>analysis ref manual
I do not have tutorial/sample right now,if i find any i will upload
regards

@learner100
Thank you.

@learner100 yes it can be done by shell elements. I did it using shell elements.
