Assembly Features

Assembly Features

Assembly Features

(OP)
Is there a way to create assembly features in a product that do not show in the part.
I need to drill a hole through several parts at the assembly/installation level. I don't want the hole to show up on the detail part model.

I've done it by creating a new part and copying the PartBody of the detail part to the new part. Then putting the new part in the product and the detail part on the detail drawing. This works for a new design but in this case I'm modifying an existing design that has far to many links to be replacing parts in the product.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Assembly Features

I dont know did i understand u good, correct me if i am wrong, u want for example do have hole in assembly and dont want to have it in drawing.
1. If u have more holes with same center trough different parts, i ll create all the holes in one part and copy in other parts, so when u move hole in main part it will be moved in all
2. If u dont want that holes in drawing u can always create body and add body without holes in it(copy woth link), u must have For example main body and body with holes to do that
3. so when u want to use drawing activate this assembly, when u do it, lock drawing, and deactivate assembly
4.when u want do update drawing u must activate assembly

i m not good with english, i hope so u can understand me

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I understood either.bigsmile

What I want is to show a hole being drilled through several parts being installed on a aircraft. That hole is not in the part models that are used to manufacture the parts. Can't just not show it on the drawing, parts are made from the models. How do I show that hole in the installation product without having that hole in the part model?

I have 20 years of Pro-E but just started on CATIA about a year ago. In pro the assembly feature has a toggle that either keeps the assembly feature in the assembly(product) or it will feed the feature down to the detail parts and subassemblies. I'm betting CATIA has a feature/option/setting like that. Its great for drilling holes at install or trimming parts to length at install.

I know everyone hates when someone says well in my software you can do this and this but I'm still new to CATIA and I still think Pro-E while modeling. Don't beat me up for saying it. Really starting to like CATIA.

The hole can not be in the Part1.CATPart. The part is manufactured from the model. I need the part to be manufactured without the hole. The Hole is drilled at the Aircraft.CATProduct.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the only way to do this is to have two parts. One for the detail part drawing/manufacturing and one to put in the installation product. Copy the PartBody with links into the installation part and add the holes to it. This would work but I just hate to have two models of the same part. Hate for the wrong one to be manufactured.

RE: Assembly Features

yeah i understand, i dont know the way to do it, but u can do it like u explain, can u explain me manufacturing of the part pls, so u directly manufacturing the part. U generete directly code for cnc or, pls more info, thx :)

RE: Assembly Features

also, is it important whic body is main body, do u manufacturing main body or, if u do u can have is same body to bodies, do u have caracteristric tree in part, like, rohteil, fraese, bohrbearebeitng etc? or

RE: Assembly Features

Hi,

I'm also not a native English speaker, can someone enlight me what does it means u in a professional forum?

mgreen66, in Airbus they are using a specific methodology for this cases and a special add-on named HnF (Holes and Fasteners). In Dassault Systems Aviation is same case but there is also a special license to do this (available also for DS customers).

The idea behind is to have a separate component for fasteners and in CATParts (or v4 models) you will not find any hole feature.

Can't really talk about our processes online but yes we generate the NC program from the models

ferdo
HnF is probably what I'm looking for. I'll look into it. Thanks
Sounds like Pro-E, it will do anything you want if you are willing to pay for the license lol.

RE: Assembly Features

Hi,

Please try Assembly features to create the hole or pocket in assembly. You can de activate this assembly feature while creating the drafting.

RE: Assembly Features

why not to use vectors? as for aerospace we always get models from customers with vectors. only holes to be drilled in part existing in 3D model.on assy drawing use rivet codes or text "drill to dia. xxx in conjunction with" or something like that.
