I am looking at a project right now which involves hvac design for an indoor theme park within a mall with an estimated area of 5000 sq.meter for the theme park.
Outdoor conditions are 46C db and 30C wb.
Indoor theme park will have rides and small offices, and dining areas with kitchens as well. Approximate heat load including the equipment heat dissipation is around 1530 KW or 435 Tons.
I am looking at 2 approach.
1. Dedicated Fresh air unit on rooftop, with multiple FCU's inside the theme park.
2. or standard VAV AHU on the rooftop, return air mixed with outdoor air.
From your experienced point of view, what are the differences between the two, and what is a good approach for this application?

And does the theme park have a pool? and what indoor conditions do you need there? i assume this is more relaxed than the mall?

option 1 gives you much more flexibility. if your spaces' load patterns differ much, vav system might be unable to either provide enough fresh air or be reasonably energy-efficient.

Persoanlly i think FCU are a disservice to the client: you need many AHU (that is what an FCU is) in occupied spaces and maintenance and repair happen in occupied areas. In addition cleaning 50 coils vs. one and replacing 50 filters vs. one is expensive. You also need to run condensate lines throughout the entire area, run chilled water etc. and they have many small inefficient fans and motors, often don't have VSD, create noise..
