Based on ASME IX QW 410.64, use of thermal process are considered as essential variable for SMAW procedure qualification as per QW 253.
My question is what is thermal process. I doesnt know it and so does my colleague and even my AI who seems not very confident about the answer. Can anybody shed some lights on me.

There are mechanical and thermal methods to remove metal. Thermal methods include carbon arc gouging, oxyfuel and plasma arc gouging.
