Required force to drive Gate Valve

Required force to drive Gate Valve

Required force to drive Gate Valve

(OP)
Hi there,

I am trying to estimate the force required to operate a rotary motion (torque) disc gate valve with eccentric opening for partial shut off of flow. Full close position holds 10 to 15 % of flow area open. I need to calculate the force to shear the fluid flow + friction between valve components and bearings (I am ok with friction parts but not familiar valves and shearing flow calculation)

I assume the force depends on fluid density, viscosity, flow, dynamic flow area. I also understand that the force is variable depending on the position, this is why I mentioned that valve never shut completely the flow, and I just need to ensure that we have enough drive torque to rotate it.

Thank YOU
