API 650 - Appendix E- Vertical acceleration

API 650 - Appendix E- Vertical acceleration

API 650 - Appendix E- Vertical acceleration

(OP)
Dear all,
i would like to have a clarification about the Appendix E in particular of E 6.1.3.
In this formula the value of vertical acceleration is given as 0,47Sds(before was 0,14Sds) but this is a bullet item so can be also specified by purchaser.
I would like to know if this value can be taken from ASCE 7.10 as 0,2Sds or not.
Civil department told me that I can't because the formula from ASCE 7.10 is different because the result is a LOAD while in the API 650 formula is an effect.
I am personally not agreed because the vertical acceleration depend on the Earthquake and if the plant have been designed for ASCE 7.10 I think I can use this vertical acceleration on the API.
Thanks to all for the cotribution
