how i can detect reverse motion of a wheel in a motorcycle ??
i want to detect even the slightest backward motion of the vehicle.

RE: suggestions needed

Does this need to be permanently installed and capable of reading at any time
Or, could it be mounted and set when the bike is parked?
And, does it need to be hidden from the roving punk hooligans?

RE: suggestions needed

To what end is this sensing taking place?
Assuming there is some commercial value at risk, you need not answer.
... but do be aware of the perfectly normal circumstance of the rider swerving toward and then away from the curb, stopping, and letting the crown of the road back the bike toward the curb, so as to be parked ready for departure.

not more than a inch of backward motion.
permanent installation.
should be active while the bike is running,no need when it is parked.
it should be retro fit-able. I do not wish to open up any housing or anything else for that matter.

RE: suggestions needed

Magnets (requires mounting), through-wheel optical sensors (requires something with less than 1" between markings, such as spokes), against-wheel optical sensors (ala ball-less computer mice), MEMS gyro or MEMS accelerometer, etc.
