Meshing difficulty

Meshing difficulty

Meshing difficulty

(OP)
Hi All,

I have a simple flat plate that needs to be analysed with transient heating.
It has a uniform thickness.

I understand that hex mesh would create a nice and easy meshing.
However, I tried experimenting it with a tetrahedral mesh. After meshing it with tet mesh, i sliced the geometry across to see how the meshes were aligned at this rear side. I realise that the meshes were very inconsistent. This is an example.

How can I go about fixing this issue? Or is this normal and should not affect result outcome?

Thanks.

Regards,
Chinny

RE: Meshing difficulty

Its normal, what else can you expect from a tet mesh? It is better if you use brick elements, you will end up with a much more DOF efficient model.

Why are you using a solid mesh on a plate like that? Can you use 2D shell elements?

You may be able to increase the number of layers and get results on the other side.
