Generator Fault Levels

Generator Fault Levels

(OP)
Hi All,
What are typical values of fault levels for generators with respect to their ratings? Also could someone explain what is meant by saturated and unsaturated conditions.
Many thanks in advance

Paul

RE: Generator Fault Levels

The main quantity you're looking for is the subtransient reactance(x''d), which isn't necessarily tied to size.  A typical value is .15, but it's best to get this quantity from the gen. manufacturer.  To find the amount of fault current a gen. can deliver, take the FLA of the gen., and divide that by x''d.
