Siemens relay touch screen 61850

Siemens relay touch screen 61850

Siemens relay touch screen 61850

(OP)
I have existing Siemens relays in our switchgear. I've been asked to look at adding a touch screen to allow the electricians to open and close the breakers via the relays from afar, keeping them safe if something should go wrong. The relays have the 61850 protocal. In reading on the web it looks like I can talk directly to the relays with WinCC? Looking for anyone that has done somenting like this and could share their experience. As always any help or advice is appreciated.

RE: Siemens relay touch screen 61850

I havent done this with Siemens relays, but with others and via DNP protocol.

I would first check that relays are wired for close (trip is obvious).

Some relays have to be configured to allow trip / close via remote control.

Otherwise, I believe it is a matter of programming the HMI (and RTU) and relays and testing. I would make sure there is security on the HMI and
some version of select before operate logic enabled to prevent fat fingers from causing unforeseen problems. Labeling and documentation of the scheme would be important as well.
