Issues with JT2Go or Other PMI model viewers

Issues with JT2Go or Other PMI model viewers

Issues with JT2Go or Other PMI model viewers

(OP)
I want to be able to provide some manufacturing personnel with a computer that can view JT files with PMI. All of our in-house work is NX. Some contracted work from customers will be NX or CATIA. We do not have CATIA, only Enovia (V5). At the /least/ we want to be able to set computers up with viewer-only capability. Budget is going to be an issue at first. If I can prove the benefits through a cheap NX only PMI based manufacturing process, maybe the powers that be will open the purse strings for CATIA after seeing ROI results instead of projections.

Summation: I want tool makers and machinists to be able to pull up a model with PMI. The source CAD models will be mostly NX and CATIA. The format for the viewer is not set in stone. If you have experience or suggestions for the following, I would appreciate the help. Decent knowledge-base support or software documentation would be a great advantage for us, as well.

1) What formats do you have experience using in such situations? 3D PDF, JT, etc

2) What viewer software do you suggest using? JT2Go, XpresReview, Adobe Reader, etc

Bonus question:

Does anyone know of any guides/kb articles that show the process of exporting from NX (8 in our case) to JT to include PMI? I have checked customer defaults, preferences, and export settings, and cannot get the PMI to display in JT2Go. The models show that they HAVE PMI when I open them in JT2Go, but I cannot get them to display, and no one else here can either. I have the same problem in JT2Go 10.1 32 bit and in XpresReview 8.3, though they appear to only differ in GUI and maybe not in their 'guts'.

Thank you in advance

FWIW, my bonus question is answered. I had to open the "tessUG.config" xml file and manually rewrite some variables to 'true' in order to get the PMI to carry over to the JT file.

To be specific:

activateNotePMI = true
activateCsysPMI = true
activateWeldPMI = true
activateMpawPMI = true
activateGDTPMI = true
activateFosPMI = true
activateDimPMI = true
activateSymbolPMI = true
activateSupplementalGeomPMI = true
applyPMIRefset = true
configureLeafNodeName = true
