What is the License Bundle Getting me?

What is the License Bundle Getting me?

What is the License Bundle Getting me?

(OP)
We have an older Bundle here that we likely are going to try to change soon. We don't really need any of the machining stuff, and I'm not sure I'm getting all the content from the free form stuff and smart models that is listed. Also, I want to be able to export .stl files directly from NX - which bundle would do that? Anyways, does anyone here have a list of License Components so I can correlate my Bundle Details to actual tools? (Entire list below, some are straight forward, but some are not. I highlighted stuff grey that I believe to be CAM, and I highlighted some Green that I know we will obviously keep. The others I'm looking to get tool content on.)

Bundle:
MFG - "NX Mfg Bundle"

Components [36]:
assemblies
cam_base
cavity_milling
drafting
dxf_to_ug
dxfdwg
features_modeling
fix_axis_surf_mill
flow_cut
free_form_modeling
gateway
graphical_tool_path
grip_execute
iges
nc_external_program
nx_freeform_1
nx_freeform_2
planar_milling
pstudio_cons
pv_ugdatagenerator
sequential_milling
shop_doc
solid_modeling
std_ug_library
step_ap203
step_ap214
surface_milling
tol_cavity_milling
ug_collaborate

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

This is something you should discuss with your reseller or Siemens PLM account representative.
They can get descriptions of the contents of the current bundles in your location.

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

I had an experience where we went from the 'old' license structure to the MACH bundles.... and due to design needs was forced into the MACH 3 license bundle, even though we had no need for CAM. I'm specifically referring to the nx_freeform_1 part of the license, which is absolutely needed for the 'enlarge surface' feature in NX. We dealt with airfoils, and the capability to easily enlarge faces was deemed to useful to let go. It seems that at some point, nx_freeform_1 and 2 was moved to the CAM side....

Based on the above, I highly suggest you THOROUGHLY test drive the license bundles you're thinking of purchasing to make sure you're not going to lose functionality.
YMMV

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

@Shadowspawn, you'll find that it was nx_freeform_2 you need to use enlarge surface. Every MACH Design bundle gives you nx_freeform_1.

as for the OP's question, below is a list that I have cobbled together.
It's not complete and there may have been some changes since I last updated it but it should give you some information:

feature_modeling is:
Insert -> Design Feature -> Hole
Insert -> Design Feature -> Boss
Insert -> Design Feature -> Pocket
Insert -> Design Feature -> Pad
Insert -> Design Feature -> Emboss
Insert -> Design Feature -> Offset Emboss
Insert -> Design Feature -> Slot
Insert -> Design Feature -> Groove
Insert -> Design Feature -> Dart
Insert -> Design Feature -> Thread
Insert -> Design Feature -> User Defined

Insert -> Associative Copy -> Instance Geometry
Insert -> Associative Copy -> Promote Body

Insert -> Trim -> Delete Edge

Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Shell
Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Thicken
Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Scale Body
Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Wrap Geometry

Insert -> Detail Feature -> Edge Blend
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Face Blend
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Spherical Corner
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Chamfer
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Draft
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Draft Body

Insert -> Mesh Surface -> Thru Curve

Insert -> Sweep -> Tube

Insert -> Synchronous Modelling

freeform_modeling - I think is only used for old functions.

grip_execute - is to run compiled GRIP programs

nx_freeform_1:
Edit -> Surface -> Boundary
Edit -> Surface -> Reverse Normal

Insert -> Trim -> Trimmed Sheet
Insert -> Trim -> Trim and Extend
Insert -> Trim -> Untrim

Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Offset Surface
Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Variable Offset

Insert -> Surface -> Bounded Plane

Insert -> Mesh Surface -> Ruled
Insert -> Mesh Surface -> Thru Curve Mesh
Insert -> Mesh Surface -> N Sided Surface

Insert -> Sweep -> Swept
Insert -> Sweep -> Variational Sweep

nx_freeform_2:
Edit -> Surface -> Global Shaping
Edit -> Surface -> Global Deformation
Edit -> Surface -> Enlarge
Edit -> Surface -> Change Edge
Edit -> Surface -> Change Degree
Edit -> Surface -> Chaneg Stiffness

Insert -> Combine -> Quilt

Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Rough Offset
Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Sheets to Solid Assistant

Insert -> Detail Feature -> Soft Blend
Insert -> Detail Feature -> Bridge

Insert -> Surface -> Through Points
Insert -> Surface -> From Poles
Insert -> Surface -> From Point Cloud
Insert -> Surface -> Rapid Surfacing

Insert -> Surface -> Ribbon Builder
Insert -> Surface -> Midsurface
Insert -> Surface -> Foreign

Insert -> Sweep -> Section

Insert -> Flange Surface -> Law Extension
Insert -> Flange Surface -> Extension
Insert -> Flange Surface -> Silhouette Flange

pstudio_cons - I think is Product Template Studio - consumer license.

shop_doc - Used to create CAM Shop Documentation

ug_collaborate: no info

ug_smart_models: no info

ug_visualize - 3D & 2D Toolpath Replay for CAM

ugopen_menuscript - no info

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

@PhoeNX,

Oops.... I was going from memory, and I guess my memory isn't what I thought it was; my bad, and thanks for the clarification. My point is still valid though, and as long as everyone listens to what I mean and not what I say... 0smile

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

You need a Mach 3 bundle. You will receive all translator options (STEP,IGES.DXF/DWG and Flattening), create STL, Shape Studio surfacing (you have all the traditional free-form surface functionality) and PMI you said you wanted. Get the Indsutrial bundle as you'll also get Realize Shape (a fabulous tool for product design from cloud data or 2-D graphics files of your competitor's products.

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

@Shadowspawn, I got the meaning and in most locales I think you're right. To get the free form 2 functionality the CAM bundle I think you have would be the cheapest way to get it.

Thanks Everyone. I'll look into the Mach3 Bundle as that does indeed sound like what we want.

Thanks again,
KLINE

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

Actually NX Mach 3 bundle does not come with Realize Shape it is an add on to the bundle but you must have Mach 3 before you can add Realize Shape, just finished testing that with a temp license.

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

@afugcadman, I beg to differ. There are multiple Mach 3 bundles:

NX13100 NX Mach 3 Product Design
NX13200 NX Mach 3 Mold Design
NX13210 NX Mach 3 Progressive Die Design
NX13300 NX Mach 3 Industrial Design
NX13500 NX Mach 3 Advanced Simulation

NX13300 Industrial Design is the only bundle that has Realize Shape in it (look for NX_SUBDIVISION in your license file) without needing an add-on.
All the other ones require it as an add-on.

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

One little clarification:

Quote (PhoeNX)

pstudio_cons - I think is Product Template Studio - consumer license.

pstudio_cons is actually a consumer license for the older "Process Studio" tool.

Product Template Studio licenses will appear as pts_author and pts_consumer.

Good luck!

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

FYI,
Our Mach 3 Adv Mach, Mach 3 Adv Designer and Adv Designer all have stl import/export. Like Mark said you really need to speak with your VAR about bundles and pricing. A long time ago we had some very old bundles and a lot of it was pieced together. Our VAR steered us towards the new bundles for manufacturing and we ended up getting more capability at a lower cost. I believe we added the Mach 3 Adv Designer bundles when some of our people needed some Studio features which the old Adv Designer bundles did not have.

Migrating to 10 when 10.2 is released.

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

I wish my employer would upgrade my bundle. The old UG Advanced designer bundles.
I'm sure he'll have to some day, as Siemens slowly moves functions to new bundles. So far nothings moved that I cannot find another way to do something. But I'm sure that day will come...

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

I believe Mach bundles have been out for well over 10 years. What maybe needed is for Siemens to come up with a way of easily moving all of us to newer bundles. Maybe using subscription licensing!

RE: What is the License Bundle Getting me?

I've had the same bundles for 16 years
