Catia airfoil design

Catia airfoil design

(OP)
Is there any way of importing the airfoil coordinates (all at once) into Catia so the airfoil will be automatically generated?

If yes, could you tell me what Catia function does this?
If yes, is the airfoil generated as a closed spline or do I have to join all points manually?

If not what is the fastest way to draw an airfoil by  coordinates using Catia?
I would like to draw the wing using two different (NACA) airfoils and I would like to know if the exact coordinates could be used to do this job.

Thank you very much for your time.

Hi,

If you are using CATIA v4 you must create an IUAPROC file in order to import the points.

Another way is to import points in AUTOCAD, using ascpoint command (starting with r14 version). With this command you can import 3D points in AUTOCAD and after that you can import a dwg (or dxf) file in CATIA.

You can also make a LISP routine (in AUTOCAD) in order to join that points (I really don`t remember if the ascpoint command can do that).

To import a dwg-dxf file in CATIA v4 you can use UTILITY.DXFCAT

If the point co-ordinates are in an ASCII file they can be imported using the CLOUD function. CST's can be created thru' the CLOUD and SPLINES ran thru' the CST's. Surfaces can then be constructed from the SPLINES
