Hi Stainless Steel Experts,
Is it possible to vacuum anneal (bright anneal) 316L and duplex 2205 parts at the same time? The annealing temps are almost the same (1900F/1040C) for both alloys and parts' thickness is less than 0.6 inches. I know 316L parts can be bright annealed with no major problems but how about 2205? Does 2205 requires faster cooling (gas quench) times than 316L? Any input/recommendation will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

1900F is very low for a 316 anneal. If there are any welds you need 2050F at least.
the phase balance in 2205 is a function of anneal temp.
You could run them together at 1925-1950F and cool very fast.

Aren't you concerned with nitrogen loss in the 2205 in a vacuum anneal?

I will also point out to the original poster that t his is not a bright anneal. There will still be some amount of surface oxide on these parts. You can remove all of the oxide during the anneal stage, but some is bound to re-form during forced gas quench. A light pickling treatment would be required to assure optimal corrosion resistance.
