Steel Cable Guardrails

I've been searching for information on the design of stainless steel cable guardrails for some stairs I'm designing, without much luck. Any design info on the subject would be greatly appreciated, particularly how to determine prestress force required. I'm even having difficulty finding mechanical properties for the cable - 1x19 316 stainless steel commercial strand.

Excellent JStephen! I'll digest the contents of the previous posts and hopefully it will give me the answers I need.

RE: Steel Cable Guardrails

Have you downloaded any stainless steel cable vender catalogs?

They've got all the fittings and support recommendations in the ones I've read.

RE: Steel Cable Guardrails

Here is the tension allowable information I have. But going to the vendor as racookpe1978 states is best.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.
