TIE BEAM SHEAR TRANSFER?

TIE BEAM SHEAR TRANSFER?

TIE BEAM SHEAR TRANSFER?

(OP)
Hi ,

I have a Pile cap attached to Tie Beam , I want to know weather the tie beam transfers shear . There is shear load of 50 kn and 20 kn at two pile cap.
Shear in pile cap =(50+20)/4= 17.5 kn ?
or shear in Pile cap = 50/2 = 25 kn. ?

Please see the Link above .
If so the tie beam transfer shear the tie beam should be designed as beam or column ?

RE: TIE BEAM SHEAR TRANSFER?

35 kN per pile as the tie does distribute the shear. The tie should be designed for tension and compression loads.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
