inspection and testing requirements of valves

(OP)
Hi,

please let me know, whether, the Inspection and testing requirements of valves shall be done for each material of heat or shall be carried for the same heat number. As because, no VENDOR is coming forward to supply with these requirements in limited span of time.

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

What is your valve specification for purchase, i.e., ASME B16.34.

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

(OP)
Yes,,
the valve complies with ASME B16.34, and its for Sour service environment.

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

Have you reviewed any of the applicable API specifications or purchase specifications for valves?

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

(OP)
HI metengr,

The requirement came from one of our client, which is as follows "For each material heat or charge, the manufacturer shall furnish a certificate of ladle analysis and shall furnish a report of the check analysis from each plate or component."

The concern is , valves that we receive from the VENDOR is having different Heat numbers for body & trim., for different sizes and for different services.

so is that really necessary to do the testing for each material heat for all these individual items.

i had gone thru the API 598 and i cant find this requirement.

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

Is it necessary for each heat of steel or charge used to supply valve castings, no. However, this is a contractual matter and someone should have read the fine print for this requirement. Go back and review B16.34 and each material specification associated with the valves and get back to your client to decide on a course of action.

RE: inspection and testing requirements of valves

It is not uncommon that end Users of valves require CMTRs with chemistry for each heat in accordance with the ASTM materials specification and it is also not uncommon that a product analysis be provided as well to provide greater assurance that the materials were not mixed. This is normally associated with valve body, not Trim.
