Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

(OP)
Hi,

How do you tell RISA 3D to brace the beam at 15 ft mark on a 30 ft long simply supported beam?

Regards,

Thanks,

FEM4Structures

RE: Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

there are 4 options in the members screen

lbyy, lbzz, lcomp top, lcomp bot.

for bending it is the first two that you should be concerned with, for compression members the latter two.

RE: Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

Jayrod said that backwards. The first two are for column type compression buckling (Lbyy and Lbzz). The second two are for beam type buckling (Lcomp-top and Lcomp-bot).

What if the building girt is facing upwards on the shell of the building with sag rods passing through the web? No Sage Rods passing through flanges, but still we can use Lcomp top and Lcomp bot or not in this case?

Thanks,

RE: Bracing a Beam in Risa 3D

Thanks for the correction. I always get those backwards. I rarely modify them unless I'm trying to get something really tight to work and then that's what the old help file is for.
