Looking for a Hardfacing Consumable for Pressure Piping.

Hi,

I need to hardface overlay the ID of a 316L pipe that that will be used in a B31.1 piping system. I am looking for a consumable that will achieve a hardness of approximately 40HRC and be crack free and meet the requirements of ASME IX Table QW-453.

The design condition are 300 psig and 300°F

Is there such a consumable on the market.

Thanks

RE: Looking for a Hardfacing Consumable for Pressure Piping.

'Real' hardfacing, like the Stellite products, love to crack. So don't worry about tightly adhered, but cracked, hardfacing.

Duwe6,

I understand about check cracking and stellite 6 cracking but I want to avoid ANY cracks propagating into the HAZ or base material. Hardfacing is most often used for abrasive resistance like digger blades etc, where cracking is not a problem. Cracking becomes a real problem when dealing with pressure piping or vessels.

Thanks

You can weld Stellite 6 with no cracks on austenitic stainless steel substrates. Also look at Stellite 21.

Thank you sir, I am also looking at using Postalloy 2826-SPL.

If anyone has used this, I would welcome their opinions and comments.

Thanks
