Opening in Bolted Flat Cover

Opening in Bolted Flat Cover

(OP)
Hi all,
In order to design Opening and required reinforcement in Bolted Flat Cover, Figure UG-34 (j) or (k): finding the required cover thickness per UG-34 using Eq. (2) or Eq. (5), the thickness shall be calculated for both operating conditions and gasket seating, and the greater of the two values shall be used.
My question is: what thickness governs when calculating the required opening reinforcement per UG-39 ?
Shall we consider the operating conditions thickness as "Minimum Required thickness of flat" even when gasket seating conditions thickness is higher?

Thank you!

RE: Opening in Bolted Flat Cover

No, you have to use the greater of the two values.
Cheers,

RE: Opening in Bolted Flat Cover

So, for gasket seating case, entire nozzle wall thickness, less any CA, is availble for reinforcement?

Regards,

Mike
