Blast load Evaluation of valve

Blast load Evaluation of valve

Blast load Evaluation of valve

(OP)
Hi !

One customer has asked for Bolt Load evaluation of valve. The conditions given are

Max. Overpressure =0.05 bar
Impulse = 350 N.s/m^2
Equivalent static load= 25 kpa

Can anyone tell me how to use this data on valve + actuator geometry for design evaluation?

Thanks & Regards,

Can anyone throw some light on how to use these loads?

When in doubt: Always ask the company requiring the test/data.

The problem is very often that technical approving demands are given without proper references. A way of solving this is to ask for details and ways/rules/descriptions or procedures for doing the calculation and proper presentation of the result. At the same time politely explain that your QA-procedures requires this, and that you regrettably have to hold all production/further progress until this is clarified.

Technical comment: Unknown procedure to me. Bolts in connection to valves in this case would probably be bolts on the valve keeping the body parts in place to give the valve the abillity to act as a pressure vessel? (And/or the flange bolts if this is relevant in your case.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply gerhardl.

Yes, that is what we are doing => asking customer for more details / procedure.

Also, read Bolt Load Evaluation as Blast Load Evaluation, my typo error.

Blast load evaluation for valve? Seems new in industry.

Will update you.

RE: Blast load Evaluation of valve

You will find blast load evaluations in general related to explosion protection devices and industry. Recommend you to search for yourself. (It could for instance be in connection of an overall review of the system you are supplying to. If the valve can withstand this force, the 'other devices protection', or no extra protection is OK, or somthing in that direction)
