Hoist protection house/dog house on a monorail beam

Hoist protection house/dog house on a monorail beam

Hoist protection house/dog house on a monorail beam

(OP)
The hoist manufacturer has required me to build a cover to protect hoist from rain and environment.
It is a outdoor straight monorail sitting on top of two opposite existing beams od a cat walk.

Any body has ran into the same issue? Any pics? dimensions? Any details? Catalogs?

I appreciate any information.

My monorail is S 10 x 25.4 and is 1 Ton hoist.
I like to see any design or if there are any prefabricated ones

Thank you

If the hoist manufacturer can't provide plans, I'd go to the pet store and look at actual doghouses that can be hacked into what you need.

What type of hoist is it? Is it a manual chain hoist? Is it an electric cable hoist?

A 1T hoist is probably not that large, so it would not seem to present a problem to fit a cover over the hoist to shield it from the environment. Just be sure that the doghouse can move with the hoist as it translates along the monorail, and does not drip water onto any of the sensitive hoist components.

A dog house right next to a cat walk. Sounds like a recipe for mever-ending noise complaints

RE: Hoist protection house/dog house on a monorail beam

I would say put a stationary sheet metal roof over the entire monorail.

My goodness, you claim to be an engineer and are supposed to have a little imagination and some engineering moxie. In its simplest form, it’s a 4'x4' by 2' high shed, with a gable roof, to drain. All covered with corrugated sheet metal and framed with angles and light structural shapes. You haven’t chosen to give us much meaningful design info., despite being asked for same. If you will store the trolley/hoist in the same place all the time, then install the shelter on top of the crane rail beam, and store the hoist under it. If the hoist might be left in any position on the beam, then mount the light shelter structure to the trolley so that it just follows the hoist around. Obviously, there are some details to be worked out, but only you have the details needed and seem unwilling to share them. If you can’t work it out from here, maybe you shouldn’t be tackling this problem, or at least get some help from your boss, or the hoist supplier, they should know what you are doing and how and why.
