Weldolet PWHT requirements per B31.3...Lets get specific

Weldolet PWHT requirements per B31.3...Lets get specific

Weldolet PWHT requirements per B31.3...Lets get specific

(OP)
Ok Ladies and Gentleman,

We are all aware that B31.3 specifies PWHT as being required when ANY PLANE of the weld is 2X the thickness of materials requiring PWHT (ie any plane measures more than 1.5").

By using the dimensions recommends by BF, which can be found here:
http://files.engineering.com/download.aspx?folder=...

And a total tolerance of 8 mm for for non-ideal welds, I have concluded that ANY weldolet of the following size or greater will require PWHT:

Greater or equal to 8" (SCH STD)
Greater or equal to 4" (SCH XS)
Greater or equal to 2" (SCH XXS)

So am I right, wrong, or dead on? Anyone want to get specific on Weldolet PWHT requirements?

RE: Weldolet PWHT requirements per B31.3...Lets get specific

Probably right. Seldom would I ever think to use 6 and 8" o-lets; they are rather large for an o-let of any kind anyway and the XS, or XXS walls tend to be a bit on the thick side.

Key is that if one of the pieces requires PWHT, then both do.
