Artificially increasing soil overburden pressure to increase bearing failure FOS

(OP)
Hello fellow members.

I have a problem I would like to bounce off of you if that's ok.

I am looking at the stability of a subsea structure at the moment. The structure is a mudmat foundation i.e. no penetration depth, and my numbers indicate that the structure has a very low factor of safety in regards to drained bearing failure.
It is unfeasible to remove the structure and modify it or increase the pen depth, so I thought that a possible solution would be to lay heavy concrete mattresses around the mudmat footings to artificially increase the overburden pressure. Any ideas?

Any input you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Regards SpaceMonkey
