Hi,
Is there any websites that show how to build a single phase/ three phase converter. to drive a 3 phase 5.5 hp motor for light wood cutting application. 220v incoming supply.

Suggestion:
1. Build a single-phase rectifier, AC-DC single phase (approximately, 220VAC-300VDC)
2. Build or purchase DC-AC three-phase inverter (approximately, 300VDC-220VAC 3-phase). There may also be a 3-phase transformer 220V/380V added, if the motor uses 380V 3-phase voltage supply.

There are a number of manufacturers of phase converters - one is RONK - www.ronkelectrical.com/pages/home.html.  They are often used on farms where only single-phase service is provided.
