Economic Survey Software, Total Station, Data Collection, Terrain Modeling, Stakeout
(OP)
Hi,
I am researching surveying software. I am looking for the least expensive way to download points from a total station to my computer and perform basic tasks such as cogo and terrain modeling.
The total station is a Topcon GTS-303 and I plan to use HP 48GX for collecting data. I also have AutoCAD LT but I am not sure if I will be able to utilize it with 3D data.
I have come across several programs including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, MicroSurvey, ect. I have some experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and would like to have, but the expense is out of my league at this point.
If anyone knows of less expensive method to work with a small amount of data or has any experience with any of these software packages any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Curious what you are using for data transfer from the HP48 to the PC?

I am still trying to figure out what program to use for downloading/uploading data also. Do you have any suggestions? I have AutoCAD LT and initially just planned to try to import 2D data to do line work and maybe hand sketch some contours. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards having capability to use the 3D data and produce contours and such. With the limited amount of work I will likely end up performing it is hard to justify spending thousands of dollars on software but it is looking that is what it will take.
Thanks
