Stainless steel 316L flattening services

Stainless steel 316L flattening services

Hello,

I am having some trouble with 316L stainless steel cracking when i want to flatten it into an oval shape. I want to fit 2 nitinol wires into the oval shape and crimp them without the 316L ss cracking. Would annealing and flattening them to oval help considerably with the cracking? Is there any services to make the 316L ss more malleable? I'm also trying to look for services from companies that would do something like this. I have a drawing attached.

Thanks

Annealed 316 can be cold reduced up to 60%. I expect your tube is already highly cold worked and needs to be annealed.

Annealed 316 will have no problem meeting your design. Agree with dgallup, you more than likely have purchased cold finished pipe.

I just purchased 316 ss from mcmaster carr, which isnt anything special. Can you suggest a supplier that could do something like this? Ive been emailing vendors but so far no luck. Starting to look into oval shaped 316L ss tubes instead, just assumed having it start round would save money in the long run when my company tries to order in bulk.

Thanks for the info thus far
