Pad Flange/Studding Outlet out of Plate?
Pad Flange/Studding Outlet out of Plate?
(OP)
Hello,
I’m trying to find info in Section VIII regarding material selection for a pad flange/studding outlet that will weld into a tank head or shell wall. I’m specifically trying to determine if ID/OD plate (not plate rolled into a ring & welded) can be for this type of flange. This is a no-hub flange, similar in design and attachment to the flanges shown in Figs UG-40 (a-1) & (a-2). Material selection and calculation requirements are clear for nozzles and hubbed App 2 or App Y flanges, but not this style. Thoughts?
Thanks,
HPM

RE: Pad Flange/Studding Outlet out of Plate?
Materials are regulated by Table 1A of ASME B16.5.
Plate materials are regulated by Note (b) of Table 1A, ASME B16.5.

RE: Pad Flange/Studding Outlet out of Plate?
Thank you for the reply. Although, I am not finding where a studding outlet or tank-style pad flange is addressed in B16.5. If it were, I agree that Note (b) of Table 1A would clearly answer my question. This being a tank fitting (albeit one mating to a pipe fitting), the answer should be addressed somewhere in Section VIII...I just haven't found it.
Thanks,
HPM

Pressure vessels are regulated by ASME BPVC and tanks by API 620/650 or similar. Tank fittings you call are not addressed in ASME BPVC, that's the reason you couldn't find them. However, the plate / pad / flange you mention are not allowed in ASME BPVC.
