Fillet weld size for structural weld

Fillet weld size for structural weld

Fillet weld size for structural weld

(OP)
Dear All,
How can I calculate required fillet leg size for structural welds i.e saddle,
in section VIII divI i could find below mentioned clause,
Can someone elaborate below mentioned clause in the form of equation and define each variable,

UW-18
(d) Unless the sizing basis is given elsewhere in this Division, the allowable load on fillet welds shall equal the
product of the weld area (based on minimum leg dimension), the allowable stress value in tension of the material
being welded, and a joint efficiency of 55%.

Or else what is the other way to find the required leg size

Regards,
Stephen Samuel

RE: Fillet weld size for structural weld

How did you decide the stress levels in the structural steel pipes ( you're using a saddle at the intersection of two pipe-like peices of structural tubing, right?) ?

What are you building and how are you designing the other joints and connections?

Consider a vessel with saddle support,
And I want to know how to size fillet for saddle welds.

RE: Fillet weld size for structural weld

So, what stresses do you expect in that saddle?
