My Hobby? Motorcycle racing.....

I currently race a Ninja 250 in the PNW area. This coming season, our club is racing at 3 different tracks.

Come out and watch some time. All races are completely open pits, so you can wander around and look at the hardware and talk to the riders when you aren't watching the races.

Some shots from last year:

I even managed a couple of podiums:

Excellent!

RE: My Hobby? Motorcycle racing.....

Used to do sports car hill climbs here in PA, till membership in the upside down club was attained. The wife banned racing anything I owed money on after that, which pretty much stopped the hillclimbing since I didn't have the time to wrench on a real race car, that left me with running in a showroom stock class. That was almost 30 yrs ago and I still miss going out to play. Today, it's wildlife and nature photography.

Good luck with your racing. I seriously considered a little amateur MC road racing back in the early 80's. I even joined WERA, bought a track bike and did a track day with Keith Code's California Superbike School. Then I saw a bike at the head of a pack drop it's oil at Summit Point and 5 or 6 riders behind him all went down. 3 were carted off in ambulances. Kind of turned me off the idea although I still ride street bikes and have been carted off in an ambulance once myself. Only 2 kinds of riders; those who have fallen and those who are going to fall.

Crashing is part of racing. If you aren't prepared (mentally, and financially), you shouldn't be doing it.

We don't normally have an ambulance ride on a race weekend, but there are 3-4 per season, usually collar bones.

I had been doing corner working with this club for almost 2 years before I got a bike and started racing. In that time, I had seen a few guys taken out in ambulances, but they were always up and walking.

My first race weekend, during the practice session I was in, we had a guy highside. That was the first time I had seen them call in the life flight helicopter! (Of course, my wife was there, and this only her second time at the track.) That was a little unnerving.

Then, later in the day, during the second race, there was another bad crash where one rider clipped the Jersey barrier at probably over 170 mph. Needless to say, 2 helicopters in the same day made everyone nervous! I still managed to race the next day, and even exceeded my season goal on my first race (not being last!).

Last year, I took a first and third place overall in two of the classes I race, and I'm not even that fast. It's all fun.

RE: My Hobby? Motorcycle racing.....

The only racing I've done was some road rallying while in college. A friend of mine would drive and I would always navigate. We never took a first place, but we came in second a few times.

These were taken in 1970 (I was a lot younger and better looking back then ;-)

Fun times! There is a local race called "24 hours of Lemons" that I'm trying to get some of my coworkers to do with me.

Buy a cheap (as in, less than $500) car, put some minimal racing safety stuff on it, and do an endurance race (8 or 12 hours, I forget exactly).
