Strainer screens- Open Area ratio (OAR) and differential pressure relation

Strainer screens- Open Area ratio (OAR) and differential pressure relation

Hello,

Can anybody provide guidance on how to connect OAR to differential pressure across metal screens, using a calculation.. I intend to form a transfer function or show a distinct effect of the OAR on to the dP.

thanks in anticipation...

RE: Strainer screens- Open Area ratio (OAR) and differential pressure relation

The main problem is that any relationship only works on a totally clean filter / screen. Normally you aim for a ratio of 1.5 to 2 and a clean DP of 1-2 psi. Dirty DP can be anything normally up to 15psi or more depending on the strength of the filter element.

I'm sure there is a function or calculation somewhere out there, but can't really see what the purpose is??

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

RE: Strainer screens- Open Area ratio (OAR) and differential pressure relation

Perforated screens with non-streamlined holes behave similar to sharp edged orifices, with similar unrecoverable losses as a function of area ratios. ASME Supplement on Instruments and Apparatus 19.5 shows discharge coefficients and unrecoverable losses for sharp edged orifices of all relevant area ratios.

Have a query wrt Wedgewire element dP calculations.

The calcs mention Screen K factor.

Does any one have any information to share wrt to the K factor.? Where does this factor originate from? Can you forward such document to me.?

Thanks for patiently responding to my queries...

have one more..

What is the International Standard for Shock & Vibration test of the Metallic wedge wire type filter element, which can be used to check the micron size or welding integrity...

thanks...
